Her Excellency, Veronica Nataniel Macamo Dlhovo
Speaker of Parliament the Republic of Mozambique
Veronica Nataniel Macamo Dlovo, born in Chissano, Bilene District, Gaza Province, has a well-endowed background in politics and law. Currently, she holds the seat of the Speaker of Assembly for the Republic of Mozambique and she has been a Member of the Assembly since 1994. As the current Speaker of Assembly, she is the first woman in Mozambique to hold this powerful seat. In addition, she is the Chairperson of the House Committee.
H.E. is no stranger to the realms of government administration and has been a force in key processes and structures that are currently being developed for the Republic of Mozambique. Her experience as the Chairperson of the Board of Administration for the National Assembly of Mozambique paved the way to earn the un-doubtful respect from her colleagues and constituents. Her leadership style has gained momentum following her role as the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in 200 through 2009.
Her career began in the corporate world as a legal advisor in 1994 following the completion of her Honor’s Degree in Law at Eduardo Mondlane University. Later, she became the Legal Advisor to the Minister of Finance in 2002. During her early start, she became a crusader for women involvement and their inclusion in the workforce so much so that she co-founded the Association of Women in Legal Career.
The efforts that she actualized and articulated through her various roles earned her more stature and strengthened her background in politics. In 2005, she held multiple positions such as the Member of the Pan-African Parliament, Member of the Committee Rules, Privileges and Discipline of the Pan-African Parliament, Chairperson of the Committee on Modernization of the National Assembly of Mozambique and Manager of the UNDP Aid Project to the Parliament of Mozambique. As a mother and a wife, H.E. Veronica Macamo has set the pace for the women and the young future generation of leaders in Mozambique.
